I got silence on my radio, let the airwaves flow....

I love music -- I have to confess that I don't listen to much created after the early 80's at the latest -- and I am old enough to not "get" hip-hop and all the music that the kids listen to these days -- I like to mutter "that awful hip-hop" in the exact same tone that my aunt used to mutter "that awful rock music." It really makes me laugh. I think each generation should have their own music and it's no fun if the grownups are listening to the tunes that you are.

In any case -- I love the music of my generation -- early 60s to late 70s -- in all its depth and breadth. It fills me with a joy that I don't experience from much else and have never been able to explain that feeling -- I try to get people to listen to my favorites but they never seem to have the same reaction that I do.

I bought Sticky Fingers on CD after the Stones concert a couple of weeks ago -- I'm sure I have it on vinyl somewhere but you can't play vinyl in your cube. Here's one of my favorites -- it's a song to be stoned to but I haven't been stoned in a very long time and it still sounds good to me:

MOONLIGHT MILE
Recorded in March & May, 1970.
Released April 23, 1971 on the album Sticky Fingers
Lead Vocals: Mick Jagger
Electric Guitar and Slide Guitar: Mick Taylor
Acoustic Guitar: Mick Jagger
Drums: Charlie Watts
Bass: Bill Wyman
Piano: Jim Price

MOONLIGHT MILE
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

When the wind blows and the rain feels cold
With a head full of snow
With a head full of snow
In the window there's a face you know
Don't the night pass slow
Don't the nights pass slow
The sound of strangers sending nothing to my mind
Just another mad mad day on the road
I am just living to be lying by your side
But I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road

Made a rag pile of my shiny clothes
Gonna warm my bones
Gonna warm my bones
I got silence on my radio
Let the air waves flow
Let the air waves flow
Oh I'm sleeping under strange strange skies
Just another mad mad day on the road
My dreams is fading down the railway line
I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

I'm hiding sister and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
I'm hiding baby and I'm dreaming
I'm riding down your moonlight mile
I'm riding down you moonlight mile
Let it go now, come on up babe
Yeah, let it go now
Yeah, flow now baby
Yeah move on now yeah
Yeah, I'm coming home
'Cause, I'm just about a moonlight mile on down the road
Down the road, down the road
Yeah, yeah, hey hey hey baby, now

And here's to you!

Please check out my friend David's new website -- he's a wonderful children's book author -- and even if you have no kids at home, his book "And Here's to You!" is just right for any age. If you do have kids, David is available to speak at schools (and libraries and bookstores) and, let me tell you, he is a hoot!

(And some news for my knitting friends -- he is working on a book involving two of my favorites things -- one of them being knitting....)

Love those short rows....

Iris Schreier has started a new Yahoo group for those interested in multidirectional knitting -- and will send a free version of her multidirectional scarf pattern to anyone signing up and posting an introduction. 353 knitters have signed up in just a couple of days. Wow!

I've made two of her zigzag scarves and it's one of my favorite patterns from all my years of knitting -- intricate enough to keep your interest but not so complex that you have to keep stopping to read the instructions.

Manny being Manny....

It's such a blast to be a Red Sox fan -- Sunday's game was classic Red Sox fun -- drama, humor, Red Sox nation, crazy players, home town excitement, the Rem Dog, the whole kaboodle. Sitting on the couch watching the 4:00 deadline come and go -- and there's Manny on the bench with his batting gloves on and a bat in his hands -- knowing that the crowd is going to go crazy when he comes out of the dugout. And they do.....
